This policy is based on the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). For persons to whom the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, the legal bases are named below.
Visiting the website
Microsoft hosts the website with Azure Static Web Apps. When you open a page, your browser sends technical data to the server, for example the IP address, the time, the requested address and the browser type. The server needs these data to deliver the page. We did not activate a logging service that stores these data for us. The website sets no cookies, loads no analytics and no advertising scripts, and loads fonts and images only from its own domain. Legal basis under the GDPR: our legitimate interest in a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Live demo
The live demo is a Placemate file. It runs in your browser and sends no data to us. It stores your progress and your settings in the local storage of your browser, under keys that start with placemate:. Delete the website data in your browser to remove them.
Purchase
When you select Buy, our server function creates a checkout session at Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd. (Ireland) and sends your browser to the Stripe checkout page. Stripe collects your e-mail address, your name, your billing address, the payment details and, when you enter them, your company name and VAT number. Stripe processes the payment details under its ownprivacy policy. We do not receive your full card number.
After the payment, we receive from Stripe the e-mail address, the name, the billing address, the VAT number, the number of seats and the amount. We store these order data in Microsoft Azure Table Storage to deliver the download link, to answer support requests and to keep our accounting records. We keep them for 10 years, as Swiss law requires for accounting records. Legal basis under the GDPR: the performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).
Download e-mail
We send the download link to the e-mail address of the order with Microsoft Azure Communication Services. The link contains the identifier of the checkout session. Anyone who has the link can download the Setup program. Do not share it.
Feedback form
When you send the feedback form, we receive the kind of feedback, the message, the technical details and, when you enter it, your e-mail address. We send these data by e-mail to our support address with Microsoft Azure Communication Services. We use them to answer you and to make Placemate better. We delete the e-mail when we no longer need it for this purpose. To limit spam, the server function counts the messages of each network for one hour. It stores only a salted hash of the IP address, not the address. Legal basis under the GDPR: our legitimate interest in answering questions and in improving the product (Art. 6(1)(f)).
⋯ » Send feedback… in a Placemate file opens this form in a new tab with your text in the part of the address after the # sign. The browser does not send this part to the server. The file itself sends no data.
Transfer abroad
Microsoft and Stripe can process data in countries outside Switzerland and the EU, for example in the USA. They use the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission, with the additions for Switzerland, and the EU-US and Swiss-US Data Privacy Frameworks where they are certified.
Your rights
You can ask for information about your data, for a correction, for a deletion and for a copy in a common format, within the limits of the law. Under the GDPR you can also object to a processing, limit it, and complain to a supervisory authority. In Switzerland, the supervisory authority is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). Write tocontact@fermium.ch.
